EDB MANUAL, SECTION E - BENEFITS

E1.0 EDB BENEFITS - INTRODUCTION

The Benefits section of the EDB Manual provides information on policies and procedures to be considered when processing employee benefits actions in the Employee Data Base (EDB).  

In this section, information is provided for the following EDB entry and inquiry screens:

• ERET (Retirement Information) -- for entry of  retirement and voluntary savings plan participation data.
• EPER (Benefit Eligibility) - for entry of  benefit eligibility data.
• EINS (Insurance Enrollment) -- for entry of employee level of benefits eligibility and enrollment data.
• EDEP (Dependent Data) -- for entry of employee’s eligible family member(s) information.
• IFBD (Future Enrollment) -- displays future benefit enrollment data.
• IHR2 (Hours Towards Eligibility) – tracks eligible hours for Benefits and Career Status Eligibility.
• IHRS (Hours on Pay Status) – displays average hours on pay status.

The benefits discussed on this site are governed entirely by the terms of the applicable plan documents, custodial agreements, University of California Group Insurance Regulations, group insurance contracts, and State and Federal laws. Those terms apply if information here does not agree with the source documents listed below. Information contained herein does not constitute a guarantee of plan coverage or benefits -- specific rules and eligibility requirements must be met before benefits can be received.

The information presented below is in the same order that the screens are displayed. This section does not offer instructions on how to navigate between screens.

The following information is provided for each type of transaction:

• Policies and procedures about the data that is entered on the appropriate screens and fields; and
• Forms that must be completed and sent to your Central Benefits Office (see below).

This Section contains several charts that may be used for reference when applying University policies to a particular benefits action. Examples of common transactions are also provided in this Section. Users should also refer to a variety of Benefit Program publications, such as:

• Your Group Insurance Plans (updated annually),
• University of California Retirement Plan (UCRP) Summary Plan Description (SPD),
• Tax-Deferred 403(b) Plan Summary Plan Description (SPD), and
• Defined Contribution Plan Summary Plan Description (SPD).
